In our generation, as Gen Z's, it's no feat that everywhere we go is a product of innovation, and that has developed our current mindset and evolved to affect all of our choices.
If the topic is about Fashion Innovation, it's usually just considering the product as a singular part and how it has helped out society access those aesthetic pieces. However, there's an effect... which is on our social development.
But how does this help you and me personally?
1. Self-Confidence
I’ve never had the confidence to show other people what I’m capable of, and honestly, dressing the part showed an impact on my self-esteem. I’ve had an observation on my fellow peers with stylish get-ups, and it annoyed me how much confidence they had – looking back, it was a little out of style and outrageous– when they walked. But I always thought…
“I want that confidence.”
Since learning about fashion innovation, style, and comfort, I realised the power of self-expression. How it produce multiple threads of creatives and trends. Many people express their emotions, artistic abilities, and thoughts through clothing.
I learned the meaning and value of garments to my personal development in motivation, ambitions, and creative skills.
The best example is M&S selling Orlon for the first time in the 1950s. I noticed the play of words always had a connection to social pressure and confidence.
2. Self-improvement
I’m self-conscious, have fidgety persona and a lot of anxiety. Wearing stylistic clothes gave me a foundation of what I had to do. Dressing the part was the first, the second was being the part. Ever since my first few months of college, I saw students conveying their skills, wearing what made them “them”. And I took that as an opportunity to change my mindset through art and fashion.
However, it took me time to reflect on my self-expression.
“Is this me? Is this who I want to show? Am I just imitating?”
All those thoughts made me realise one particular part.
It was not to please other people but to prove that I can be confident and be who I want to be.
Where does this take me?
I need to reflect on what makes me “me”.
I’ve had to go through hours and hours trying to build my expression and the message I want to convey.
Through this, I can create multiple avenues of constant self-reflection in what I want to show and do to improve myself in finding out what fits and doesn’t. However, I still need to find out what those avenues are for continuous self-improvement.
The years of fashion innovation brought me to this pinnacle of using that to my advantage and personal development.
